EUROPEAN ASTROBIOLOGY NETWORK ASSOCIATION (EANA)
Since, there are several centres of excellence in astrobiology or
related fields of research in Europe, there was and is a need that they
are co-ordinated to share there expertise and research facilities. This
was the main drive for European scientists to organize and create a European Astrobiology Network Association (EANA) for the scientific benefit and the public in general.
The
value of sharing resources on an international scale was highlighted at
the Inaugural Meeting of the European Astrobiology Steering Group at
the British National Space Centre, London on 25/26 October 1999 and at
the Strategy-oriented Meeting at CNES, Paris on 18-19 October 2000. At
these two meetings, senior representatives of the European Science
Foundation and the European Space Agency acknowledged that astrobiology
in Europe should be strengthened, formalised as a Network and
supported.
The European Space Agency supports the EANA Network
and provides access to the ESA Virtual Institute for Astrobiology. The
Virtual Institute facilitates communications and sharing of information
among EANA members and their global collaborators.
